BOOT

H1993.139

Ankle length mens leather boot. Five pairs of lace holes with eyelets and an additional four pairs of hooks at the top. Cloth lined. Now appear purple/brown in colour. Heavily worn rusted nails securing heel evident as is the inner layer of leather where the sole has worn through/ Tongue torn, leather inner sole.

Information supplied by June Swann, world authority on historic shoes visiting from UK, during her inspection of shoe collection 18th October 1993.

'Balmoral Boot (ankle length). Squared toe. c. 1880s. Wearer had very wide foot. Boot has been chewed by mice/rats. Right foot. Worn through under little and big toe. May have been same wearer as H.1993.138. Backstrap missing'.
