BOOTS
CH1976.24.a-b
High heel, black leather lace-up boots. Edwardian style. "MADE EXPRESSLY FOR \ BRECKLERS \ FREMANTLE".
Information supplied by June Swann, world authority on historic shoes visiting from UK, during her inspection of shoe collection 18th October 1993.
Have been reheeled poorly. Wearer had a bunion. Repaired many times. Black kid, quite good quality, with round toe suggestive of 1918, but quality of leather is too good for war years. Painted wood heel, with leather top piece. 18 pairs of eyelets. Back strap. Probably English made and Australian repaired. in 1917, regulations were introduced to limit boot height to save leather. This boot may comply - may be 1915-18, then worn into the 1920s and repaired.
