BOOT

H1993.138

Ankle length leather man's boot. Faded black colour. Five pairs of eyelets with an additional four pairs of hooks at top. Leather lining Brown cloth tape with small red crosses for pulling on boot. Sole is nailed on. Heel consists of four layers of leather.

Information supplied by June Swann, world authority on historic shoes visiting from UK, during her inspection of shoe collection 18th October 1993.

A heavy, sturdy boot. Right foot. A wide foot. Worn through under little toe. May have been same wearer as H93.139. Slightly oblique heel. Back strap. Braid for backstrap probably Australian made. Tongue stitched in on one side. A more expensive boot than H93.139. May be an import. Lot of rough wear. Probably 1880s.
If went into building wall with 1925 newspaper, were probably very old then.
