SPURS

H1993.428

Pair of spurs made of steel, they have small rowels (often found filed round) and are held on the boot by a strap which is fixed (non-adjustable) which goes under the instep, and is secured by a strap/ buckle which goes over the top of the foot. The steel spur protrudes from the rear of the heel. Marked on inside of heel part 'WILLIAMS/ & CO 1915'. Marked on top of spur shaft 'broad arrow'. All army spurs observed to date (Australian) have been made by Williams (R.M. WILLIAMS S.A.) and dated 1915.
The upper adjustable strap has a 9 by 7 cm 'waisted' leather panel attached which lies over the boot laces etc. The leather straps etc, would normally be numbered and marked with army markings , but as the leather on these spurs is replaced they do not appear.
