SILK DRESS AND SASH

H1986.518

a. Dress; Simple pink silk, round neck, sleeveless, pulls on over head; just below knee length; drop waist- seam at hips; top of dress has 3 sets of vertical ruching 12 cm long running up from seam at drop waist; skirt is slightly gathered from horizontal bands of ruching on hips; hem is reinforced with apricot cotton band inserted inside hem; machine and hand sewn throughout. b. Sash (?) Possibly reworked from earlier belt/sash into headband or armband for child's fancy dress. 70 cm long, folded back and stitched to form loop for head or arm. Quite badly discoloured. Would date this at 1930's, or possibly later when it would have been very out of fashion. Difficult to date exactly.
