DRESS, c. 1895 (Bodice & Skirt)

CH1985.76.a-b

Dress comprising skirt and bodice of rich pink cotton with wide woven border of pink/white textured stripes:
a) Bodice: very full pouched front constructed on an internal yoke that buttons with 2 pearl buttons; the front closes with hooks and bars at the left shoulder and down the left side; high neck in pink cotton with a rosette at each side; extravagant leg 'o' mutton sleeves composed of close fitting sleeve in textured fabric with huge bloused oversleeve from shoulder to elbow.
b) Skirt: straight at front, shaped by darts, gathered very full at back; attached to waistband of white cotton tape, placket closure with hooks and eyes, pocket in left back seam; hem formed of textured, striped fabric; sash of same fabric, partly cut.
