CRINOLINE, Circa 1860

Crinoline of watchspring hoops, joined by white cotton webbing tapes, suspended from front-opening waist band of white herringbone tape; printed on back of waistband with crown trademark and name 'THOMSON'S "PRINCESS" G'; 3 watchspring hoops at about knee height; 5 narrow steel hoops contained in royal blue wool twill band below; machine-sewn throughout. Crinoline gives regular conical silhoutte of late 1850s-early 1860s. See Bradfield, 'Costume in Detail', p. 199.
