Explicit and casual racism continue to be a daily experience for many Australians, as evidenced by recent events in WA.

It is therefore, perhaps timely that the next scheduled In Conversation event at the WA Museum Boola Bardip deals with the difficult and complex issue of racism.

Speaking equally: who is listening to whom? brings together Diversity Focus CEO, Elizabeth Lang, Senior Diversity and Inclusion Advisor, Fadzi Whande, Associate Professor Sender Dovichin and Yirra Yaakin Company producer, Bobbi Henry to share their experience and stories around contemporary racism.

The discussion will consider how people from culturally diverse backgrounds are often perceived as the ‘other’, and the implications of unconscious bias on issues such as human rights, injustice and racial equity.

WA Museum Boola Bardip Manager, Helen Simondson, said the persistence of racism in our community has significant implications for all those affected.

“The WA Museum Boola Bardip’s In Conversation series is designed to provide a safe place for challenging conversations. We encourage people to ask hard questions, break down barriers and challenge the status quo”.

“By enabling discussions that look at a range of issues and perspectives, we can build a collective understanding and bring about change, which is desperately needed.”

“There is no question, that recent events have brought this issue into sharp focus. It is now more important than ever that we support this conversation taking place.”

Speaking equally: who is listening to whom? is a ticketed event on Thursday, 10 November from 6.30 pm – 9 pm at WA Museum Boola Bardip. Standard tickets are $18, Concession and Auslan $16. Discounts apply for WA Museum Members.
