Expression of Interest: Western Australian Museum Aboriginal Advisory Committee News | Created 17 Jan 2023 The Western Australian Museum is now seeking expressions of interest from Western Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples to join the Aboriginal Advisory Committee. The Advisory Committee was established over 30 years ago and plays a significant role in developing policy and practice across all the Museum’s sites. About the role The primary role of the Aboriginal Advisory Committee is to provide advice, support and guidance to the Museum, particularly on those matters relating to the interests of Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander peoples. This will include advising the Museum on relevant: strategic and policy issues; operational matters such as public programs and acquisitions; potential collaborations and partnerships; possible sensitive and contentious issues. Members are also expected to champion the vision, mission, values, and priorities of the Museum, and to advocate, both for the Museum, and for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and their culture within in the Museum context. The Advisory Committee meets four times per year to consider general business, but it is hoped that members will be available to provide out-of-session advice as required, and to attend Museum events, if possible. Vacancy There is a number of vacancies and two of these positions are reserved for young people, one male and one female, aged between 18 and 25. Appointment of members is for a period of four years from approval by the WA Museum Board of Trustees. Members may serve a maximum of three consecutive terms.
