A SYSTEMATIC REVISION OF AUSTRALIAN EMBALLONURIDAE (MAMMALIA CHIROPTERA).WA Museum Records and Supplements | Updated 1 decade agoAbstract: Numerical and classical taxonomic approaches based on the morphology of the skull, teeth and external characters, including the morphology of the baculum and glans penis, have been applied to clarify the specific and generic status of the Austrahan Emballonuridae. We now recogmse the following eight Australian emballonurid species: Saccolaimus flaviventris, S. mixtus, S. saccolaimus; Taphozous australis, T. hilli, T. kapalgensis and T. troughtoni. The genera Saccolaimus and Taphozous in Australia are separated on cranial, dental and external morphology. A parallel study by us (unpubhshed data) on generic relationships within the family Emballonuridae. based on phylogenetie analysis of qualitative cranial data, supports the recognition of Saccolaimus and Taphozous as distinct genera.
