A NEW SPECIES OF AUSTROCYPRACEA (GASTROPODA CYPRAEIDAE) FROM THE LATE PLIOCENE OF THE EUCLA BASIN, SOUTHERN AUSTRALIA

WA Museum Records and Supplements | Updated 1 decade ago

Abstract - A new species of fossil cowrie, Austrocypraea amae sp. nov., hitherto misldentIhed, is described from the Roe Calcarenite of the Eucla Basin. The new species is intermediate in morphology between the Miocene A. contusa (McCoy, 1877) and the extant A. reevei (Sowerby, 1832). It provides the first confirmation from the Pliocene for this endemic southern Australian genus.
