Faunal Surveys of the Rowley Shoals, Scott Reef and Seringapatam Reef, North-Western Australia: Molluscs

WA Museum Records and Supplements | Updated 9 years ago

Abstract: A total of 389 macromollusc species, all of which are widespread Indo-West Pacific forms, are recorded from Scott and Seringapatam Reefs and the Rowley Shoals. The fauna is distinct from that of the adjacent continental mainland, and is indicated by the 70 new records for Western Australia. In addition many species rare along the continental coastline are common on the offshore reefs. There is a considerable overlap in the mollusc faunas of the Rowley Shoals and Scott and Seringapatam Reefs. Differences found can be attributed to variations in habitats sampled in the two systems and human influences.
