ECHINODERMS OF CHRISTMAS ISLAND

WA Museum Records and Supplements | Updated 9 years ago

Introduction: The first echinoderms collected from Christmas Island were eight specimens of four species taken by H.M.S. 'Flying Fish' in 1887. These were briefly recorded by Bell (1887) but the identity of several of the species listed is questionable; a crinoid from this collection was later described, with type locality Christmas Island, by A.B. Clark (1911). Andrews (1900) added six species, identified by Bell, to the previous list but again several identifications are questionable.
