Checklist of the birds of Western AustraliaWA Museum Records and Supplements | Updated 7 years agoINTRODUCTION – In 1948 H.M. Whittell and D.L. Serventy published A Systematic List of the Birds of Western Australia (Public Library, Museum and Art Gallery of Western Australia Special Publication No. 1). The next forty-eight years witnessed such a resurgence in fieldwork, especially in the tropical north, deserts, seas, coasts and wetlands, that a further 110 species and many subspecies have been added to the State list. At the same time the classification of the birds has been improved and the distribution of the species and subspecies better defined. The area covered by this list includes the seas and islands of the adjacent continental shelf, including Ashmore Reef. Author(s) R.E.
