THE BIOLOGICAL SURVEY OF THE EASTERN GOLDFIELDS OF WESTERN AUSTRALIA: Vegetation and FloraWA Museum Records and Supplements | Updated 1 decade agoIntroduction: A general outline of vegetation in the Kurnalpi-Kalgoorlie Study Area is as follows. Trees (5-10 m high) cover most of the Study Area. They are absent only on parts of Granite Exposures, Hills, Salt Lake Features and Sandplains in the northern half of the Study Area. Mallees (2-4 m high) and Hummock Grasslands occur on Sandplains and sandy situations on other landforms. Hills, and aprons of Granite Exposures, support tall shrubs (1.5-2.5 m high) and few low trees. Low shrubs (0.5 m high) without trees cover extensive areas only on Salt Lake Features. Although vegetation is generally low on the isolated rocky landforms and salty depressions in the Study Area, it is not necessarily more open here than elsewhere. The density of the tree cover is slightly greater in the south than in the north. Author(s) G.J. Keighery, A. V. Milewski and R.J.
