Leveé dress.
(a) Coat: navy blue with standing collar. With silver braid and sequins. 9 silver (plate) buttons front, 2 back waist, 2 back bottom of tails. Silver braid on large cuffs, on hip flags & at back waist. Morning coat with pointed waist at front and square-cut tails. Black satin lining. Label: 'C. MOUVEN & ZOON/ Hofleveranciers/ Van Nederland en Belgie/ BREDA'.
(b) Trousers. Navy blue with 4.1cm silver stripe (braid). 4 bakelite buttons down front. 6 on outside waist. Cream lining.
(c) Waistcoat. Cream wool with white glazed cotton back. 7 buttons down front. Pointed in front. High buttoning. Round neck. Pointed, flapped pockets. Pocket contained visiting card CH.1979.19.
Stitching removed in history lab. Glazed cotton lining. All hand sewn.
Front fastening, hem-width (over 4 yards), sleeve etc. indicate date in late 1840's. Ref. A. Buck, Victorian Costume & Costume Accessories, 1962.
