a. White Mess Jacket - 1893 pattern - buttons changed, epaulettes worn on the shoulder. Normally has -2- brass buttons on front - not attached on this example. (date circa 1930's/1940's)
b. As above.
c. R.N. Captain's Blue Mess Jacket - 1891 pattern (this exmaple, circa 1930's/1940's). Worn in mess whtout epaulettes but with heavy dress eapulettes for balls. Insignia on the sleeve indicate rank of Captain.
d. R N Blue Mess Undress Waistcoat. 1903 pattern (this example dated circa 1930's/1940's).
e. White Mess Waistcoat - 1901 pattern. (this example dated Circa 1930's/1940's).
The white mess waistcoat was placed in abeyance before 1939, reappearing in 1949. This would suggest that Lefroy had this waistcoat before 1939.
f. Mess/full dress trousers, 1891 pattern in this example dates Circa 1930's - a laundry or tailors ticket sewed into the inside of the trousers indicates a 1940's date. (ie: used in 1940's). These trousers were worn with mess jacket, waistcoat and also with full dress tunic.
g. Cravat - details not known, presumably worn with mess uniform. Makers were "Regal Cravats" reg US PAT OFF.
h. Epaulettes - these display the rank of Engineer Commander. The purple background to the stripes indicates the wearer was an engineer. The epaulettes would have been worn with the (c) Blue Mess Jacket and (a) and (b) the white mess jackets and white shirts.
