(a) Bodice: Black patterned silk gauze on black taffeta lining. Low square neck-line, with turn-down "collar" of silk gauze, extending to waist on either side of pouching and forming a point at back. Front pouched in black gauze on white satin, with rouched trim. Folded waistband of black satin. Plain long sleeves, with narrow m/c lace trim at wrist. Partly lined with black taffeta. Waist dips in front and higher at back. Inner petersham waist-band. 14 bones, one on front fastening, 1 on each dart & seam. All m/c sewn.
(b) Skirt: Same material. Slightly gored but fairly tight fitting. Front fastening with hooks. 2 hooks on outside of skirt to attach to corset or camisole? No matching hooks on bodice. Tabs on side seams to hang.
All machine sewn. Probably a ball dress or similar because train very slight. Pouching on bodice fastens separately to main bodice fastening. Ref. Cunnington, Handbook of English Costume, pp. 21-36.
