ARMY UNIFORM, white tropical, Sir Charles Gairdner

Jacket and trousers (white) : Lieutenant-General's badge of rank; British.
TUNIC: Fine light cotton drill; four pockets in front, two shallow; three-pointed flap pleated breast pockets with buttons and at each end of lap and stud. Below without buttons, a three-pointed (shallow) flap over square unpleated pockets. On left-hand breast pocket - badge formerly attached, on top of pockets - holes for medal ribbons. Squared skirts in front, closed back.
Collar: squared-end stand up collar - one hook and eye (5.3cm high).
Cuffs: Pointed steep angle (15.2cm at top, 6.7cm at back). No facings (?). 2 buttons - can open cuff.
Shoulder boards: 15.2cm long - that for General officer (1900 Regt) - gold - button - white metal embroidered crown (crimson field) over baton and sword white metal embroidered - dark blue backing.
Buttons: sword and baton surrounded by wreath - 5 buttons in front; 1.9cm cross - hollow brass - 'Pitt and Co. - Maddox St, London'.
2cm cuffs (vertically arranged) - buttons overlap.

TROUSERS: Fine white cotton drill. At bottom of each leg: 4 buttons - metal, holding black leather straps, for tying underneath boot.
Suspender Buttons: 4 medium size in front - 2 large at back. On waist - hook and eye.
Label: 'Bernard Weatherill Ltd. 5 Conduit Street, W1. No./ Date/ Name - Gairdner'.
