The line of swordsmiths called Yoshimichi was quite famous and lasted over two centuries. The 11th (last) generation Yoshimichi worked c. 1853 in Yamashiro Province; this, however, is a relatively poor quality tanto blade of the late 19th century, and not of the style of the Yoshimichi line.

Saya: ribbed black lacquer over wood, with pocket for kodzuka. Kodzuka handle en suite with other fittings: blade signed: INOUE IZUMI KAMI KUNISADA
Tsuka: white same bound with gold-coloured thread
Fuchi/kashira: patinated copper, nanako background with gilt horses and flowers
Menuki: spray of leaves in gilt and patinated copper
Tsuba: cast lead or pewter, of hamidashi shape, with raised scroll-work pattern. Traces of gilt left
Dimensions: 3.5 x 5.0 x 0.4 cm

Overall length: 64.5 cm

The kodzuka blade is signed: ‘Inoue Kunisada, Lord of Izumi Province (made this)’. There were several generations of this name working c. 1620-88.
