BROOCH, 18c gold with blister pearl, John Wellby(?), c.1880s

Horizontal, rectangular shaped, blister pearl brooch, carved to resemble leaves, branches, and fruit, set in 18 carat gold back-plate with four gold flowers around edges. Edges of back plate shaped to resemble small pointed leaves. Four small round pins secure blister pearl to back-plate. Oval shaped section of back plate cut out through which pearl is visible. Two horizontal gold bars attached to back-plate, between which a metal tube hinge is attached on the right. Thin round pointed metal pin attached to hinge, and secured at left end with metal ‘C’ clasp. Gold metal chain with gold safety pin at end attached through small hole in end of one horizontal bar on back-plate. ‘18’ stamped into back.
