MEDAL, Reform Bill Passed

H1990.312

Medal produced on the passing of the Reform Bill in Britain. On the obverse, a kneeling allegorical figure is offering a scroll marked "REFORM" to the standing figure of Britannia, between them on the ground lie the "MAGNA CARTER" and "BILL OF RIGHTS". Behind them is a plaque with the names "GREY / BROUGHAM / ALTHORP / RUSSELL". Across the lower section of the medal - medallist "B. WYON SC", and "2ND. & 3RD. WILLIAM IV". Encircled at the top of the medal, a head with "WILLIAM THE ..URTH". (two letters covered by Britannia's helmet). The reverse has a wreath with English roses and Scottish thistles around the rim, a shield at the base and a crown at the top. Lettered inside, "REFORM / IN THE REPRESENTATION / OF THE PEOPLE / IN THE / COMMONS HOUSE OF / PARLIAMENT / 1832". Under the shield, "B. WYON". Previous registration number scratched onto obverse, "47-1946". Noted by Fearon to be of City of London Series.
