MEDAL, Thames Tunnel

Silver coloured medal with, around the rim on the obverse, "SIR ISAMBARD MARC BRUNEL, F. R. S. & C." At the centre is the head of Brunel in high relief and below, "J. TAYLOR / MEDALLIST BIRM.(M?)" Reverse is lettered "THAMES TUNNEL 1200 FT. LNG. / COMMENCED 1824 / OPENED MARCH 25 / 1843" and the double tunnel is etched, showing in the long perspective, a man on horseback and three other figures, one a woman pedestrian. Previous registration number, Art Gallery, D11/1946.
