SPOKESHAVE, Joiners'

H1989.222

Wooden spokeshave, possibly box wood. The cutting iron is 3 inches long, and is wedge shaped with two tapered square tangs at the ends turned up at right angles. The sole in front of the cutting iron is flat and plated with brass. A notch has been cut in each end of the handles and the initials 'J' and 'U' have been carved into the front face. A moon and star symbol are also visible on the front face.
