(a) Silver oval shaped band, open at one end (front). Curves upwards at back to fit around crown of head. Attached on either side of silver at open end two oval shaped ornaments of gold filagree. Dutch hallmarks include lion passant, (silver standard); head of Perseus (silver since 1852); makers initials?; letter N in circle (date - 1923).
(b) White. Long and not very deep. Elaborate fluting on sides at front. Loops along bottom threaded with drawtape. Cotton running thread at front between fluting for gathering. Latter attached to silver band. Part hand, part machine sewn.
(c) 4 hat pins; metal sticks with simulated pearl on end.
The silver frame is worn next to the head with the gold filagree ornaments at the front. Over this is worn the cotton cap, flutes at the front. Drawtapes are tightened and tied at the back under the hair (hair is worn tied back in a bun). A hat pin holds the cap in place at the front (these pins are not original). The silver and gold part is called 'yser' and the cap is called 'mus'. A nightcap is sometimes worn inside the house instead of the full headress. See CH.1981.5 for full details of the costume.
