Uperoleia russelli (Loveridge 1933)

Moderate body size (to 33 mm), squat and rotund. Brown colouration. Glands behind head orange, with scattered orange spots on the head, midline, limbs and rump. A pair of dark blotches run to either side of the midline.

Breeding Biology

Nothing known.

Habitat

Occurs along creeklines and alluvial flats, sheltering in grass tussocks or leaf litter. Also occurs at the base of rocky hills.

Etymology

The name refers to the property owner where the first specimens were collected.

General

This species' distribution used to cover the entire Pilbara, but that population has been described as U. saxatilis. The true range of U. russelli is much more reduced, and is the most southern occuring Uperoleia in Western Australia.
