Students learn about different perspectives on the night sky, using Aboriginal and Western language to name celestial elements.

This program uses case studies to explore how these different perspectives on the world have informed the way natural resources are harnessed and used.

Student experience

Students will:

  • Learn Nyoongar words for elements of the sky
  • Compare Aboriginal and Western views about the ‘creation of the universe’
  • Discover how seasonal markers in the sky show when to harness Earth’s resources
  • Examine case studies that detail how Aboriginal peoples have utilised the earth’s resources for multiple purposes
