The COVID-19 pandemic has created a world health crisis the likes of which has not been experienced in recent generations. With over 4.5 million cases worldwide, and over 300,000 deaths attributed to the disease, countries are in lockdown, and borders have been closed. An international community of scientists is working tirelessly in a quest to understand the behaviour of the virus, and whether the development of a vaccine may be possible. The economic impact is as devastating as the pandemic, and, the impact of the virus will permanently disrupt and alter global and local communities in every imaginable way. Our lives, and the way we live them, have been permanently altered. Everything feels different now. Our world, Australia, and Western Australia, all feel different now. Time feels different now. The Western Australian Museum is documenting the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on Western Australia. We invite all Western Australians whether here in WA, or overseas, to share your reflections on how these times have changed you, your loved ones, and our State. We would also like to hear from those people from other countries who find themselves living in Western Australia right now. Workers, travellers, students; how has COVID-19 affected you? Email us at: WAMcollectionsCOVID19@museum.wa.gov.au These are some of the things we would like you to share with us: Where were you when the coronavirus pandemic was declared, and, how did that announcement change your plans or personal situation? How were you affected when the first restrictions were put in place across Australia and Western Australia? What changes have you noticed in your neighbourhood or local community? How do you think you will behave differently in the future? What will you change, or, what new things will you do, and what will you never do again? Have you as an individual, or part of a group, made a contribution to supporting others? What have you been doing? How have you been helping? What are the objects, images or moments that have defined this time for you? Do you have something you would like to offer to the Museum for the State collection?* What should the Museum collect so we can tell the stories of this time in the future? What message would you leave for future Western Australians to describe these times and help them understand the significance of the pandemic? Email Collecting COVID-19 Thank you for your submissions. With your permission, we may follow-up with you as part of a targeted acquisition project. All the submissions collected will remain an important record of these times. *The Museum will consider any offers of items as part of a targeted collecting program and in accordance with its collecting policies.
