Chill Zone Activity Corner

Get your fill of frozen facts with loads of free fun in the Chill Zone these holidays:

  • Antarctic Expeditioners – Outdoor clothing to survive the freezing conditions of Antarctica has changed in the last 100 years. Can you dress the three expeditioners in the clothing of their time?
  • Would you survive? - You are going on your first Antarctic field trip. Take the test and see if you’ve got what it takes to survive Antarctica’s freezing conditions.
  • Deep Diving Competition -   Which animal is the champion deep diver in Antarctica? 
  • Huskies - Mush!  - Haul out the dress up box and pull on a huskie hat to relive the role these hard working dogs and loyal companions played in the lives of the Antarctic expeditioners up to 1993.

Totally Cool

Manhauling

Explore more about this unusual and unique type of transportation on ice with an experienced ‘manhauler’ from Antarctica, and make your own working mini ‘manhauling’ sled to take home.

Whales on the go

Dates: Thursday, 2 May

Uncover some of the mysteries about Antarctic whale migration, and make your own little soft toy whale, full of character and ready to go!

Crafternoon

Dates: Saturday 27 April and Wednesday 1 May

Ages: Families and interested crafters
Cost: $5 - $10 per craft item. Includes all materials, patterns and haberdashery

Visit the penguins and seals on display in the Traversing Antarctica exhibition for inspiration and creative input. Choose between an Adélie penguin and baby seal ($10 each) or a little whale with its distinctive fluked tail ($5 each).

Take Home Activity - A Rockhopper Penguin
