Turbulent Life in the House of Eternity: Polish - Egyptian archaeological excavations in EgyptPublic Lecture | Updated 1 decade ago Archaeological discoveries in Egypt Professor Karol Myśliwiec, University of Warsaw, Poland1.00pm, Tuesday 2 AugustNWS Shipping Theatre, WA Museum - MaritimeJoin Professor Karol Myśliwiec as he discusses the fascinating discoveries made by his joint Polish – Egyptian archaeological mission. The excavations brought to light important rock-hewn tombs of noblemen from Dynasty VI (ca 2300 B.C.) which add to our understanding of this unsettled time in Egyptian history as the Old Kingdom slowly disintegrated. One tomb in particular has evidence of a family feud, with many of its beautiful paintings and reliefs destroyed. Interestingly the images of the youngest son remain intact. The upper layer of the excavated site contained hundreds of burials from the contentious Ptolemaic Period (i.e. between Alexander the Great and the famous Cleopatra VII). Prof Myśliwiec directed the mission that excavated this area in 1987 and from 1996-2010. He lectures internationally on his discoveries in Egypt.COST: Free event, includes entry to Maritime MuseumBOOKINGS: No bookings required WA Maritime Museum Tue 2 Aug 2011 1:00pm – 2:00pm
