In the steps of Shackleton: lessons from a lifetime of polar explorationPublic Lecture | Updated 1 decade ago Tim Jarvis approaching a crevass Photo courtesy of Paul Larsen Presented by Tim Jarvis AM Environmental scientist, author, adventurer Tim Jarvis, Australian Geographic Society Adventurer of the Year 2013, returned from Antarctica in February 2013 following a remarkable journey to retrace the steps of legendary leader Sir Ernest Shackleton’s 1916 southern ocean voyage of survival and crossing of South Georgia. Jarvis and his team of six men used period equipment and clothing. He will shed light on the fascinating motivations that drove Shackleton's endeavours and the logistical intricacies that led to extraordinary outcomes. Jarvis will share the larger-than-life adventure of the Shackleton Epic as well as stories of his other history-making polar expeditions.
