Discovered washed ashore at Mandurah, August 18, 1988 Image courtesy WA Museum Join us in commemorating the 25th anniversary of the discovery of our extremely rare Megamouth shark at the WA Maritime Museum on Sunday, August 18. From 12pm, WA Museum Aquatic Zoology collection manager Sue Morrison will host a one-off talk explaining Megamouth’s journey from being discovered washed ashore in Mandurah in 1988 – only the third of its kind found anywhere in the world at the time - to his preservation, display and relocation to his current home in Fremantle. Sue will also discuss the life history of the shark and comparisons with close relatives including the whale shark and basking shark. The talk will conclude with a visit to Megamouth in his custom-made tank. Sue’s talk is free to all Maritime Museum visitors (Museum entry fees apply), with no bookings required.
