International Museum Week 2012 in AlbanySpecial Event | Updated 1 decade ago Every year since 1977, International Museum Day is held worldwide sometime around 18 May. From America and Oceania to Europe, Asia and Africa, International Museum Day aims to increase public awareness of the role of museums in developing society. The theme for 2012 is Museums in a Changing World. New challenges, New inspirations. Albany is hosting the following program to celebrate the week. 11.00am – 1.30pm, Sunday, May 20: "Young Film-Makers Expo" See short films made by local filmmakers and find out how easy it is to make your own video. Free event. 2.30pm – 4.00pm, Sunday, May 20: “Why Museums Matter” Enjoy conversation, coffee and cake with WA Museum CEO Alec Coles. Gold coin donation. 10.30am - 11.30am, Tuesday, May 22: “Storytelling and Place” Experiences from ABC Open and beyond, with ABC Open Producer, Suzannah Lyons. Gold coin donation (for tea & coffee). 10.00am – 12.00pm, Thursday, May 24: “Now and Then” Hands-on photography project using historic images from the WA Museum collection. Free event.
