Unearth the mysteries and secrets of ancient Egypt these school holidays! There’s plenty to do, with mysterious tombs to explore, intriguing codes to decipher, and amazing archaeological antics to join!

Children’s Discovery Centre for Antiquities and Archaeology
Dates: Saturday 6 July – Sunday 21 July

Test your deciphering skills, crack the hieroglyphs message and enter the pharaoh’s tomb. Design a golden death mask fit for a pharaoh; discover the divine power of amulets and the secret of the scarab; and unearth riches in the sands of the desert.

Rhythms of the Nile

Delve into daily life on the Nile River. Learn about the seasonal flooding and how this created the enormous fertility that sustained ancient Egyptian society. Recreate an early Egyptian reed boat using traditional materials and methods.

Discover the rituals, rites and meaning of mummification in Ancient Egypt. Join us as we take you through the processes to mummify your own mummy (not your real one!), using oils, linen, natron and special herbs.

Explores the tomb of Tutankhamen and delve into the incredible sarcophagus entombing the boy king. Discover the meaning behind the death mask and recreate your own so you too can be recognised by all.

Journey through the great pyramids of Egypt as you explore the amazing monuments from the stepped Pyramid of Saqqara to the great pyramids of Giza. Build your own pyramid from clay blocks whilst learning about the maze of false tunnels, trap doors, fatal drop tunnels, anti-chambers and opulent burial chambers.
