Presented in association with the National Museum of Australia

Join Jay Arthur as she discusses the challenges of telling an untold but difficult Australian story that has affected hundreds of thousands within our community - the story of life inside Children’s Homes and Institutions. As a national exhibition, Inside has presented the opportunity for giving a significant voice to the experiences of those children in institutional care whose stories were previously silenced.

As lead curator of the Inside exhibition, Jay was confronted by the many challenges facing the National Museum team as they approached the telling of this troubling story that has affected hundreds of thousands of Australians. Who should be included in the exhibition? How to present the voice of those silenced for so long? How to deal with the darkest areas of that history? What responsibility did the Museum have to those whose story it was?
