A number of groups are collaborating to control the cactus species Cylindropuntia in the Goldfield’s region.

Prickly pears (Opuntia stricta) were imported into Australia in the 19th century for use as a natural agricultural fence and in an attempt to establish a cochineal dye industry. However, the Prickly Pear has since become a problem in many places including Kalgoorlie-Boulder and Coolgardie. Join Kim Eckert, CEO of Kalgoorlie-Boulder Urban Landcare Group as she discusses the region’s growing ‘prickly problem’, and how the community can assist.
