OVO™ from Cirque du Soleil is an immersion into the teeming and energetic world of insects, which is now playing under the Big Top in Perth until 9 June. This is your chance to see the real bugs that have inspired the show. The Bug Wonders Workshop is a great way to learn about some of the smallest creatures in nature and find out why they’re so important for our natural world. For your chance to win a Family Pass to OVO™, visit the Bug Wonders Workshop on Wednesday, 1 May and complete a questionnaire. About the Bug Wonders Workshop Presented by Dr Terry Houston, Research Associate and Dr Mark Harvey, Senior Curator – Arachnology, from the Western Australian Museum and special guests from Cirque Du Soleil. Join our minibeast specialists Terry and Mark to explore the world of Perth’s Bug Wonders! Terry and Mark will take you on a journey through the amazing range of creatures that fly, creep and crawl, and how some have been discovered and studied only recently (due to help from the public). Our special guest speaker from Cirque du Soleil is Jen Bender, the Assistant Artistic Director of OVO. Her job is to ensure that the show’s high quality is maintained as it tours the world. Jen will provide some fascinating insights into how Cirque du Soleil has interpreted the world of insects in OVO™, including the clever costume designs, how the circus acts represent the unique movements of different insects, and how she helps each artist in the show discover their ‘inner insect’ personality. Jen Bender will also be joined by two of Cirque Du Soleil’s artists from OVO™, who will appear in full costume. You can get busy with a hands-on bughunt where YOU try to find insects in some of their natural leaf-litter world, and get close up to explore some real minibeasts (preserved in jars).
