The Revolutionary and Napoleonic wars that followed the French Revolution and lasted from 1792 until 1815, were very different wars to all that had gone before. These were defining moments in the events that shaped the map of modern Europe and things were never to be the same after the Battle of Waterloo. Both France and Britain - indeed the whole of Europe - had changed, and even the very nature of war itself was different.

For France and the rest of Europe these were territorial wars while for Britain they were predominantly naval in nature. Join Michael Sargeant as he traces the course of these European wars to 1815 with particular reference to the three central characters who dominated the naval and military arenas at the time.
