A Trek Through Time


A Trek Through Time is free family-friendly walking trail between the WA Shipwrecks Museum and WA Maritime Museum that takes you through Fremantle's historic West End and Victoria Quay.

Discover historical landmarks along the way such as:

  • The Round House
  • Whaler's Tunnel
  • CY O’Connor statue
  • Bather's Beach

Planning your visit

Before Arriving at the Museum

  • A Trek Through Time can start at either the WA Shipwrecks Museum or WA Maritime Museum.
    Make sure you have downloaded the correct version:

  • The Trails are not available at the Museums and must be printed at home.
  • Print copies of the trail to create a booklet using the following properties (a test run on the first two pages is recommended) :
    • A4 size, double sided, landscape format
    • Check rotation/ ‘left bind’ of pages to ensure all pages are up the same way
    • Colour if possible, to enable easy comparison between old and recent photos
    • 2-3 staples down the left hand side to enable viewing of page spreads
  • A Trek Through Time takes place outside. Please ensure your family is dressed appropriately for the weather conditions on that day.
  • A Trek Through Time takes 25-40 minutes to complete depending on how much time you spend at each stop along the way. If you would like to explore one of our Museums after completing the trail, we recommend allowing at least 2 hours for your visit. 

While on the trail

  • You will cross roads ias you venture along the trail, consider having a road safety chat to any young explorers before you begin.
  • Be mindful of other visitors using the footpaths when you stop at a landmark.
  • Entry fees may apply if you intend to visit inside the Round House or WA Maritime Museum.

 A Trek Through Time is available as a free self-guided activity when you visit the WA Shipwrecks Museum or WA Maritime Museum with a class. Bookings essential.
