Budgeting

All museums operate on a limited budget; planning ahead and considering step by step projects, you can work towards long-term priorities.

Some of the elements your budget should cover include:

  • Building and grounds maintenance
  • Insurance
  • Telecommunications and internet
  • Preventive conservation supplies such as packing and storage materials
  • Effective power use
  • Printing
  • Cleaning supplies
  • Software for collection management

These need to be balanced against your revenue, which might include:

  • Grants
  • Shire/local government funding
  • Admission charges
  • Donations
  • Gift shop profits
  • Fundraising
