This is a poor quality blade made late in World War II. The Arabic numeral ‘4’ and the Japanese character ‘7’ are graven on the tang. Despite these, this blade is unlikely to have been official issue. Many ‘last ditch’ weapons were made, possibly by the soldiers themselves, to supplement meagre stocks during the closing days of the war.
