SWORD, Army Officer's, Japanese.

Appears to be a hand made blade of good quality. Made to order for army officers WWII. Scabbard is missing.
Samurai type.
Shape- TACHI - long sword.
Form- SHINOGI TSUKURI. Ridge [SHINOGI] slightly high, ridge width [SHINOGI-JI] / medium, Blade taper [FUNBARI] / normal, back[MUNE] / high IHORE, no carving.
Temper outline [HAMON] very pointed/ragger [CHOJI NOKOGIRI]. Tip [BOSHI]/ KOMARU BIZEN style, return [KAERI] short. Forging techniques and grain [KITAE] are unclear due to abraiding, appears to be hand made.
Tang [UBU] KENGYO shaped, 22.9cm long [NAGASA], ccurviture [SORI] slight - medium and filemarks TAKA NOHA. Back [MUNE] flat with one hole [M EKUGI ANA]. The signature [MEI] is TACHIMEI: KANE TOSHI.

Nagasa: 69.4 cm

Sori: 2.0 cm, torii

Sugata: shinogi tsukuri, iori mune

Nakago: 22.9 cm, one mekugi ana, ubu

Kissaki: chu

Hada: unclear due to abrasion

Hamon: very pointed and ragged choji/nokogiri

Date: August 1943
This modern handmade tachi blade was manufactured for army issue. There were several modern smiths of this name.
Koshirae
Type: GUNTO

Saya: missing

Tsuka: white same bound with brown cotton

Fuchi/kashira: brass, nanako background with cherry blossom motif, en suite with guard
Menuki: brass, also en suite

Tsuba: brass, of aoi-gata shape with cherry blossom motif. Dimensions: 5.5 x 7.0 x 0.8 cm

Overall length: 97.5 cm
These fittings were standard World War II army issue.
