EVENING DRESS, mid-late 1840s

Pink (faded) silk organza self-checked in white, evening; wide neckline trimmed with lace threaded with pink silk ribbon; bodice lined with white cotton, boned and darted to fit snugly while the outer fabric is gathered at waist to give a pouched effect; short sleeves of ruched fabric covered by full cap outer sleeves; large pink silk bow on right shoulder, possibly missing from left; plain round waistband; unlined skirt gauged to waist with extra fullness at back; closed by hooks and buttonholes eyes.
