AIR METER, Hand-Held, in Leather Case

H1990.174.a-b

Former Kalgoorlie Mining Associates property. a. Cylindrical leather case with lid held in place by leather straps at side. Has special compartment for protruding arm of b. Also has felt platform for b. inside. b. Air meter. Has black painted handle at bottom which screws off and protrusion at top which can also be detached. This centre piece is cylindrical and has two different calibrations. They can be altered by screwing either of two silver buttons above, the the right and left of gauge. It is in either 0-60 feet per second, or 0-150 feet per second. On gauge is "26727". Has "Wilh. Lambrecht / Gottingen" underneath gauge. Also has "42810" and "89890" hand engraved underneath gauge. Handle at base screws off and has white plastic switch which illuminates small light bulb at end. This is presumably to illuminate gauge in dark conditions. Protruding cylinder at top is curved, hollow and has yellow cap. This probe may perhaps allow the air flow inside ventilation ducts to be recorded. This device is similar to one depicted on plate 5.5.33, Vol I, Technological Survey of the Golden Mile.
