Former Kalgoorlie Mining Associates property. Flow meter, probably to test the speed of underground ventilation fans. a. Case, brown, looks like canvas. Has "FLORITE" and logo on front flap, inside has compartment for b, and compartment for c and d. b. Flow meter. Black metal, has "FLORITE / MADE IN U.S.A." on front. Has circular casing enclosing and protecting a circular fan. This fan is agitated by the ventilation fans, and the speed recorded on the graph at top right hand edge of casing. This graph is calibrated in feet per minute and miles per hour. Has small swivelling button above this graph which centres the graph back to zero. In Textbook of Ore and Stone Mining is the description of anemometers, which measure the velocity of air. The second type is described thus: "The speed of the air current is determined by the number of revolutions of an instrument provided with vanes like those of a windmill.... The instrument is held up at arms length at the current ... and it registers either the number of its revolutions or the rate in meters or feet at which the air is travelling" (p. 518) c. Black painted steel tube, has thread at one end to attach to d. and so lengthen handle, has thread at other end for unknown purpose. d. Steel tube with bar and screw at one end mounted above the tube with thread at base. Screws into flow meter, thread at other end allows d. to be screwed on.
