PUMP, Menzel
H1991.150
Small brass pump with threads at a narrow neck so that it can screw into a spark plug aperture in a vehicle. The pump widens along its length to a section which has six facets on the outside and eight circular vents near its core. At the centre of the vents a bolt is secured to which is welded a 0.7cm x 2cm hollow pipe. Pump is marked "MENZEL AIR-PUMP PAT 109677". Said to be a Western Australian invention. The Menzel pump is used to inflate a flat tyre. One end is screwed into a vehicle's spark plug aperture and a tube run between the pump and the vehicle's tyre valve. The vehicle motor powers the pump of air. The pump was purchased in the 1950s by Mr R. Sontay as stock for his Mukinbudin store. It was never sold.
