TYRE PUMP, two stage
H1988.579
Two stage tyre pump. Manually operated. Used to inflate the high pressure tyres used on motor vehicles during the first 4 decades of the 20th century. Heavy oval shaped base with two steel topped brass cylinders inside which are the leather cupped plungers that pump the air. A smaller brass cylinder is mounted on each of bottom cylinders. Top cylinders have cast steel tops that are joined by a thin pipe. One top has a short threaded outlet pipe, ten long thin external bolts which holds the tops on the brass cylinders to their bases. The handle is a long thin tube welded to a rod into the base and becoming the axle for the arms - operating the pumps. On tops of cylinder: "PAT MAY 29 / 1917 / DEAD EASY / GLOBE MFG. CO. / BATTLE CREEK MICH. U.S.A.". On each pair of cylinder. This pump was designed to be an accessory for a motor vehicle.
