Home made tin box, painted cream, with door which opens frontwards, has handle & locking latch at RHS. Inside (the tin is unpainted inside) are two quart bottles with 'ONE IMPERIAL QUART / FILL TO LINE ABOVE ARROW'. LHS bottle has 2 copper tubes, a & d (refer to diagram in supplementary file) form one tube. B connects the two bottles. The second bottle has one copper tube c. which appears to be an over-flow tube. The tubes a & d from the LHS bottle are divided into two: a. becomes the tube which connects the mouthpiece to the device, d. terminates; obviously an incomplete or washing tube. The mouthpiece has 2 prongs to fit either side of the tongue. The screw-on bottles have their original screw-on lids, with the copper piping soldered on them to adapt them to their purpose. Appears to work on siphoning principle. This method of suctioning was unpopular as it was very unhygienic; it would readily become dirty and was not able to be cleaned easily.
