SHOES - pair of ladies K26/92

H1993.111.1-2

Pair of ladies dark brown suede Oxford shoes. Shoes have 8.5cm heels and lace up fronts with five eyelets in which are non-original brown shoelaces. The toes and sides of the shoes are decorated with a symmetrical pattern of stitching in a lighter shade of brown than the rest of the shoe. Shoes are a sixe '6'. Shoes have leather soles and heels and are lined with leather. Inside both, on heel section, is written '6', 'B', '489', / '259'. On insole is written 'PARAGON / THE SHOE BEAUTIFUL' and 'LAST / 489B'.

Addition 4.5.95: Information supplied by June Swann, world authority on historic shoes visiting from UK, during her inspection of shoe collection 18th October 1993.
Probably around 1938-9 June will check her data for the manufacturer, Paragon. NOT a Louis heel. A 'text-book example' of type. Not too badly damaged, but well-worn, 5 eyelet. No tongue. May have come out from England.
