SHOES

Black leather. Slightly pointed toe. Instep slightly raised with tongue and metal buckle (square). Low heel, covered with reddish leather. Al machine sewn. Probably 1890's to 1900's as patent leather was popular at this time; buckle decoration also general shape. Tongue first mentioned in Cunnington (see below) c1895 plus.

'Boy's black patent dress shoes. Rounded toe and stacked heel which was almost certainly black but covered in brown leather (stacked heel invented around 1600). Heels nailed. Buckles stitched on. No adjustment. Brass buckle, engraved. Fancy curved-top high tongue. Machine-sewn. May have been worn by a page to a wedding. Not much wear.
1880-1910. White kid quarter lining, tongue lining and sock. Most likely c. 1900.'
